Prince Norodom Chakravuth Officially Elected as President of FUNCINPEC

PHNOM PENH: The FUNCINPEC party has held its congress on Wednesday morning, officially electing Prince Norodom Chakravuth as party president and successor to Prince Norodom Ranariddh.

FUNCINPEC Party Spokesman, Nheun Raden, told EAC News that the presidential election of Prince Norodom Chakravuth during Wednesday morning’s congress was fully supported by more than 500 party members. He added that in addition to electing a new President, the party also appointed three new Vice Presidents, amended some party statutes, as well as the party's political strategy.

The official announcement of the decision of the FUNCINPEC Party’s Congress held at Veal Sbov, Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh, stated: "All members of Congress – royalists, Sihanoukists, Democrats, patriots – please resolve to unite in the wisdom of Prince Norodom Chakravuth, President of the Party, under the auspices of the FUNCINPEC Royalist Party, and resolve not to be divided and to hold on to internal unity in accordance with the historical decree of His Majesty the King Father, Samdech Ta, Father of National Independence, Territorial Integrity and Khmer National Unity, His Majesty the King on October 30, 2011, and the last wish of Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh.”

Prince Norodom Chakravuth, the eldest son of Prince Norodom Ranariddh and Princess Norodom Marie, was appointed as Acting President of FUNCINPEC on 8 August 2018.

The election of a new party president follows the death of former FUNCINPEC party president Prince Norodom Ranariddh, who passed away on 28 November 2021 in France, at the age of 77 due to illness.
